1. Agreement

These Terms of Use (“Terms”) are a contract between you and Press Xpress Limited, trading as Cowrie Africa (“Cowrie”, “we”, “us”). By registering, signing in, or using cowrieafrica.com, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy.

2. What Cowrie Africa is

Cowrie Africa is a parimutuel prediction market. Members stake into shared pools on the outcome of events (for example sports fixtures). Winners share the pool according to published rules. Cowrie does not offer fixed odds or act as a bookmaker against you — you stake against other members in the pool.

Press Xpress Limited is licensed by the Gaming Commission of Ghana to offer regulated gaming services. We operate in accordance with our licence conditions, the Gaming Act 2006 (Act 721), and directions from the Gaming Commission of Ghana.

3. Eligibility

You may use Cowrie Africa only if you:

  • are 18 years of age or older;
  • are resident in Ghana or otherwise authorised to use the service;
  • register with accurate information — including a valid MoMo number in your name;
  • maintain only one account per person (duplicate accounts may be closed and stakes voided);
  • are not excluded from gambling or financial services by law.

4. Your account

You sign in with your email and password. You are responsible for keeping your email, password, phone, MoMo wallet secure. Tell us promptly if you suspect unauthorised access: support@cowrieafrica.com or +233 24 146 0181.

5. Wallet & deposits

Stakes are placed from your Cowrie wallet. You top up via mobile money (MoMo) through our payment partner Paystack. Deposits are credited after successful payment confirmation (including Paystack webhook processing).

Minimum deposit for staking purposes aligns with our minimum stake (see below). We may set maximum deposit limits for risk and compliance. Wallet balances are shown in Ghana cedis (GHS); internal records use pesewas for accuracy.

Withdrawals are sent to the MoMo number you registered with. You confirm each request by re-entering your account password. We may verify your identity before your first payout or when required by law or our regulators. Funds are held when you submit a withdrawal request and released after our team processes the MoMo transfer.

6. Stakes, pools & fees

Unless we state otherwise on a specific market:

  • Minimum stake: GHS 5 per prediction.
  • Maximum stake per prediction: GHS 1,000 (Standard tier) or GHS 100,000 (Advanced tier).
  • Daily staking limits: GHS 2,000 (Standard) or GHS 10,000 (Advanced), in addition to per-prediction caps.
  • Minimum wallet balance to stake: GHS 5.
  • Markets close for new stakes at kickoff (or at the published close time). Stakes after close are rejected.

From each market’s gross pool, before winners are paid:

  • 8% — Ghana Gaming Commission levy on gross pool turnover;
  • 9.2% — operator fee;
  • 82.8% — distributed to winning predictors in that market (parimutuel share).

Payout shares depend on how much was staked on each outcome. Crowd percentages shown on the site are indicative of pool distribution and may change until the market closes.

7. Resolution & payouts

Markets are resolved by Cowrie administrators after the event, using published resolution rules for that market. Winning stakes are credited to member wallets as ledger payouts. Withdrawals to your registered MoMo number may require identity verification on first payout or when required by law — always check your wallet and stake history.

If a market is voided or cancelled under our rules, stakes may be returned according to the market brief or administrator decision, recorded in your ledger.

8. Prohibited conduct

You must not:

  • use Cowrie for money laundering, fraud, or financing illegal activity;
  • stake on behalf of others without authorisation, or use stolen MoMo or identity documents;
  • manipulate markets, use bots, exploit technical errors, or attempt to circumvent stake limits;
  • harass staff or other members, or misuse support channels.

We may suspend or close accounts, void stakes, and report serious misconduct to authorities where required.

9. Responsible participation

Prediction markets involve financial risk. Only stake what you can afford to lose. If you need help with problem gambling, contact the Gaming Commission of Ghana or seek local support services.

Cowrie provides daily deposit limits, daily staking limits, and self-exclusion in your account under Responsible gaming. Self-exclusion blocks deposits and new stakes until support reactivates your account.

10. Service availability

We aim to keep Cowrie Africa available but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. Maintenance, MoMo network issues, Paystack outages, or force majeure may delay deposits, stakes, or payouts. We will use reasonable efforts to restore service and communicate material incidents where practicable.

11. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by Ghana law, Cowrie is not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for losses arising from events outside our reasonable control (including third-party payment or telecom failures). Our total liability to you for a claim relating to a specific transaction is limited to the amount of that transaction, except where liability cannot be limited by law.

12. Disputes

Contact us first at support@cowrieafrica.com with your registered details and market reference. We will investigate wallet and prediction disputes in good faith. Unresolved disputes may be referred to competent courts or regulators in Ghana, which govern these Terms.

13. Changes

We may update these Terms. The effective date at the top will change when we publish a new version. Material changes may require renewed acceptance where the law requires. Continued use after notice may constitute acceptance of non-material updates.
